Removing the safeguards and rules that help guide unhoused individuals while handing over funds with no structure is a recipe for failure. Empowerment must be earned through preparation, not just assumed through access.
Every organization that serves the homeless aims to foster independence. But unless we first address the issues, addictions, and influencers that keep people stuck, autonomy becomes a dangerous illusion.

Education and re-education must lead the way. True integration into community requires readiness, dignity, and healing not just temporary cash infusions.
